This too shall pass.

The decks below were no less chaotic than above. Osterley helped Silvertown get the stretcher down a steep flight of stairs, treading carefully while water sloshed to and fro on one side of the corridor - a list was developing to port. Mornington glanced into the future, then led them foward.

They pushed on, water now swirling at their ankles. The Indomitable had a much larger signals office than her predecessors, which was at least partly due to Broadview and his compatriots at Bletchley Park. The officer on watch started when they burst in, fumbling for his service weapon.

"Hey - you can't be in here!"

Mornington breathed out a glacieric sigh.

"Lieutenant Grantham, the pennant today is at half mast for Captain James' son. Your liason is Rainier but only since she took over from Delridge. Today's rotor code is unusually similar to yesterday's. You celebrated your birthday last week and stole whiskey from the captain's quarters with help from the XO."

A developing list and increasing water level suggests the torpedo hit was below the waterline and that the Indomitable has taken severe damage.

Acting Captain Ughtred Henry Ramsden James was the captain of HMS Indomitable during the real invasion of Sicily in our timeline, though other details in scene are fictional.

A device known as the Typex machine was employed by the United Kingdom during the Second World War, similar in principle to the Enigma, and used the same principle of rotors set to certain configurations from which ciphertexts could be generated.

Two common shorthands are used on board Navy ships - CO for "Commanding Officer" (otherwise the captain), and XO for "Executive Officer" (otherwise the second-in-command).

Have Blue was the code name for a secretive research project designed to produce a prototype stealth attack aircraft. It originated from a paper written by a Soviet physicist presenting a theory of reflective electromagnetic waves, from which Lockheed Martin engineers realised a computer program could be written that would analyse and compare aircraft designs on the basis of reflecting the minimum amount of radar beams back at the enemy. From this project would come Senior Trend and the F-117A Nighthawk.
