Fractal Realities: Again

August Rode

A former Ficleteer...

How does this story start? It starts with the thought that my stories rarely lie down in the page in an effective way right from the start, that the story often goes through significant revisions until I find the right beginning. Just as this paragraph has already been significantly edited, even though I'm still not happy with it.

Again.

How do I start this story? I throw words at the page but stop before there are too many to work with. I shuffle words and phrases around, trying to find combinations that convey the tone I want the story to have. Sometimes this works and sometimes it doesn't.

Again.

How do I want this story to start? I want to communicate some sort of grand idea, to entertain or inspire as the reader sees fit. I want the idea to form complete, entire and golden in my brain. I want the words to flow from my brain to my fingertips in perfect, coherent order. I want pristine prose with just a hint of poetry behind it. This never happens.

Again.

When does this story end? Now.
