Faulty Memory (7/22)

An alumnus of both Ficlets.com and Ficly.com. Who, for some weird reason, is starting his time here with an abundance of cannibalism-themes stories. O.o

"Why can't I remember the trip here? Never mind deciding to come here?"

"I don't know?" Her head snaps up. "I didn't drug you or anything, if that's what you're thinking!"

"No!" I have a sudden need to make sure she knows I don't think that. "I don't know why, but I know you didn't. Give me a second."

I sit back, close my eyes, and think. What happened at the restaurant? Mari was working, so I went there after work. I was going over the menu, looked up, and there she was. I thought I was hallucinating, but then the server took her order. Then... Nothing until I woke up here.

"There's only one thing I can think of," I say to her. "Shock."

She thinks about it for a moment. "I guess that makes sense. You were a little... unfocused, I guess, after dinner. Then you said, 'I've always wanted to visit Korea. Let's go! Right now!' We grabbed the first flight we could, and you know the rest."

I nod. The next question I have supersedes the rest. I have to ask it, but it's not easy.

"What are you?"
