"I don't think you should be alone. You need to rest. Do you want to go to your sister's, your place, or mine?" I offered.

He blinked at me, processing what I said at the same time as he was processing his emotions and the events that just unfolded.

"I've got some secret wine. Come on."

When we arrived at my door, Charlie stopped. "Wendy, I.."

"Let me take care of you, Charlie. We've both been through a lot. We have a lot to talk about. I'm not the same pyromaniac kid. I learned to use my skills for good."

Charlie relaxed and entered. He sat on my sofa and I poured us both some wine. "Sorry, I don't have any food in here. It would have spoiled."

He took a drink. "Not a problem."

"So, how did you and Alice meet?"

"Let's not talk about her, right now."

"Okay, what do you want to talk about?"

Charlie settled in. I opened my heart and let him.

Having not read the entire series, I feel like this mostly stands on it's own. I like Ficlattes? that can do both. This seems interesting enough to pull me back through some of the other ones.

Well, this one is where the character finally let herself out of her protective shell.. In the rest of the series she is a sort of a 'viewer' of the scenes she lives through, just so you know.

See, if I read it, I'd be upset with the style of the protagonist. It's like she's in a dream of faceless people. It irritated me writing it this way. But I had to.

Then, I had to let her free.
