Burning Questions: You make it out the window. Alone.
This is "slapdashmonuments" creating a new Ficlatte account for the purpose of trying to write some Choose Your Own Adventure stories using Ficlatte's sequeling features. I'll tag work-in-progress parts WIP until the whole story is ready to play.
The first full story, "Burning Questions," is available now:
You feel yourself leaning against the welcome mat, pulling it forward, feel the grain of the fibers clinging to your jeans. You fall headfirst, and the mat falls with you.
With a crash, you land right in the brambles; luckily, your eyes were tightly shut. You're scratched up badly, but you didn't land on your neck, thanks to the bushes. You get away from there, crawling gingerly but rapidly from the scene. And then you look back at the window.
Ms. Brett has fallen off your shoulders, landing to the left side of the window frame, never even touching the welcome mat, which you can still make out lying against the branches of the shrubbery.
Ah, it was not a nice end. Arsonist though she was, your instructor's end was horrible. Still worse to you is the look of her face, raised to the sky. Her hair is still aflame.
The sirens sound. You allow yourself the luxury of passing out.
I'm glad about that.
