TRAILHEAD: Burning Questions (sample CYOA story)
This is "slapdashmonuments" creating a new Ficlatte account for the purpose of trying to write some Choose Your Own Adventure stories using Ficlatte's sequeling features. I'll tag work-in-progress parts WIP until the whole story is ready to play.

You have been asleep. But you're not in your bed. You don't even remember going to sleep. You feel like you're still half in some kind of murky dream.
Gradually you become aware of a dull roar, not far away.
You shake your head, hoping to clear it, but the sound continues. A rumble with some high frequency pops.
Then you smell the smoke.
Your head aches. You reach up to touch the back of your head, and feel a bump there. Your fingers come back sticky. You're hurt, and you cannot remember how it happened.
Your night vision seems to kick in gradually; it's dark, probably night.
You realize that you are alone in a classroom on the third floor of the Humanities building at your university. You have to escape before the building either blows up, or burns down!
With a dizzying lurch, you drag yourself to your feet.
You are afraid, but you try to keep from panicking as you rush out of the door of Classroom 312. You run into the hallway. Your only thought is to make it out of the building alive!
You have to hurry!

For the new visitor, the sequels given by "AdventuresAndSearches" are your options for your next step as the protagonist. Probably the best way to backtrack, if you need to, is by using the prequels that you used to get where you are, rather than the back button on your browser. It's not the most elegant solution, but it's something. In later stages, I have made the main options bold so you can see their correlation to the sequels' names.
I definitely welcome comments and suggestions for any improvements of story or implementation!!

Hmmm, this first step has been viewed 23 times, but the next steps, only one or two times...perhaps this indicates a low level of interest in playing such a game through? That's OK to tell me in comments!
