See You Later, Space Cowboy
I'm just this guy, you know?
To expand on that, I am also the following...
- A former ficly member who is 38 years old and is schizoaffective (depressive type)
- Into creating languages and fantasy worlds from scratch
- A listener of audiobooks & good tunes
- Always too hard on myself
Its face was playing tricks on me.
It has been 7 years floating inside this heap. Sometimes I forget that it isn't really a face. It's a control panel. The dials, however... & the read outs? They are definitely face like. It's not just some goofy "space madness" or anything with a more scientific sounding name that is less like an episode of "Lost in Space." It has a face. A taunting face. An ever staring face. Judging me. Wondering what I'm wondering.
I'd look away & look back just as quickly and catch it staring. One might be inclined to point out that it was just a sophisticated collection of wires & diodes & doodads & whatever other technical crap they stuff into control panels to make ships fly out here in the vast nothingness of nothing itself...
... but... it definitely had a human like quality. The eyes... piercing, they were. The mouth... always agape like it was about to tell me something important...
I rubbed my eyes and marked another day off on a wall already filled with dashes of chalk...

He (?) has probably been talking to it for years. I would hope that he knew more about it than "doodads" level, though.
In retrospect... perhaps this person was actually NOT an astronaut but a stowaway that really DOESN'T know anything about the control panel. Hmm... how awkward to kick a switch or something and find out they had communication with Earth....
