Tally Marks
"That makes three..." An exhausted smile on my face as the chalk screeches another tally mark onto the chalkboard.
This superhero work takes so much more out of you than I realized it would.
My restoration chamber is beginning to look more and more like a king sized bed with extra pillows instead of the simple cot it is.
I trudge over to it and barely break my fall as my face smashes into the thin mattress. I don't even bother to look up as I fumble for my plug.
My hand grasps the cool cable and I plug myself into the machine. It whirs to life and oh my god what a feeling.
Emotional energy slowly dribbles back into me and I'm barely coherent enough to reach for my stereo.
But once the music starts playing... forget it. I'm a goner.
Lost in the satisfaction of saving another life from suicide, and the pure ambedo of music and emotion being pumped back into my weary, spent, tearless, soul.
All so I can save someone else another day.

I really liked the wording. The words you used to paint the scene and the way they were used. It not only painted the picture, but painted the feeling behind it for me too. :-)

You are a literal life saver! How badass is that? I like that your recharge machine is music--stored emotion, and then you expend the emotion for your powers. I wonder if it is your magic feather though . . . Tally Marks is not a bad title but if you're unhappy with it, I can probably workshop some ideas to at least give you more bounce to the ounce. Always happy to see another one by you.

I have quite a few people who have told me that my superpower is facilitating happiness and that without me many might not have made it to 2017. Soooo that's kinda where the inspiration for this piece came from. The problem is that, making others happy and helping others live is just as emotionally draining on me. And it's nobody's fault so I just recharge after one of those particularly long battles with people. Usually done with music and a very long sleep.

I think the title is beginning to grow on me now but thank you very much for the kind offer :)

Facilitating happiness is indeed VERY draining. I love the music for a recharge, as that is true. What works best is when people invest back in you. :) <3

Story prompt:
If you were a superhero, as in YOUR traits are your superpowers, who would you be? Not an alter ego, rather your awesomeness on steroids or in overdrive.

I give credit to John Koenig for the "ambedo" neologism.
