Unwilling to Escape

aslargeasalone

Getting back into the flow of writing, mostly with wordplay and poems. I'm a creative soul, from childhood to middle age, and my joy is to produce new things the world has never seen before. I'm an educator from the USA working as a college professor of lit and music. I'm learning to love myself little by little.

My friend deserves much better; still, he clings,

Against all warnings, to that bastard's love,

And whether feighted or genuine, it brings

Destruction. Now the demon's poised shove

-

Its victim from the precipice! Oh, now,

He's lost his balance, inches from his death.

Persuaded that he's guilty, he does vow

He won't let others save him. "Save yourself,"

-

He calls. Beneath, the chasm mocks his cry,

Anticipating my friend as its next meal,

And winking at the torturer; while I

Can't act, my shouts unheard. This evil's real,

-

And only God, if anyone, can smite

The devil now-- Please! Pray, with all your might.
