The Librettist

Storykeeper

I grew up on Ficlets. There, the writer inside me had a home. I'm a teacher now, and a 4th grader who reminds me so much of myself asked, "Why don't you share your writing with us?" So, I come tentatively, searching for a place to stretch my writing muscles again.

Story is marked as mature.

Ella Strong nodded and her eyes widened. "Wow, Sarah. This is really something."

"Shit," Sarah thought, dreading Strong's next words. "Shit, shit, shit."

"I think this is the perfect solo for Stella."

"You do?" Sarah sputtered.

"Yeah! It's so...real, you know?"

"You have no idea," thought Sarah. "I mean, I didn't want to make her too..." Sarah trailed off.

"Dramatic?" Strong laughed, "We're writing a musical! No such thing!"

"I just--"

"Oh, stop it. This is perfect! Have a little faith in yourself!" Strong continued to babble about how avant-garde the whole show was going to be, with its off-the-cuff-all-woman cast and its highly unusual all-woman production team, and isn't it just so appropriate that the songs shouldn't really rhyme because that's just so avant-garde?

Sarah nodded, giving a timid smile every time Strong gave the slightest pause.

When Strong left, Sarah ran to her office. "I swear to God, I am going to kill that cat."

You definitely turned everything around with this story and actually made the previous piece of writing even better than it already was. Congratulations and thanks for a great read!
