I think I've been bullied.

Maybe it's just that the person who complains about the speck in my eye needs to remove the plank from theirs.

I need to stop wanting to please them.

When they say something in a subversive manner, hint that this new way is good to try, and I listen and try it, I am only baiting them. My desire is not to BECOME them. I think their desire is that I should. I don't fit in their mold. To break this habit, I have to stop trying all of their hints and ideas. They don't like it when I have ideas of my own.

I need to do things my way and not apologize for them.

It's at the point where apologizing is admitting weakness and guilt even when there isn't any. Manipulation of my thoughts and actions is emotionally abusive. Fear of rejection from someone who already rejects me is stupid.

I cannot be bullied if I am not afraid.

Bullying is a hateful thing to happen to anyone, but I think your conclusions are sound.

Fear of rejection from someone who already rejects me is stupid.

I cannot be bullied if I am not afraid.

Emotional abuse is real and dreadful. Some people don't know that it can be abuse without beating or other physical attacks, but that's a mistake. Another survivor here.

This is one of those pieces that blurs the line between fiction and anecdote to such an extent that you can't tell the difference. I expect that everyone has experienced emotional abuse to some extent or another, which makes this all the more poignant.

As someone who was bullied all through school, this really hits home. Well done, my dear!
