A Grown Woman with Magic
Escapist from Ficly! So glad the community has found a new home thanks to some dedicated writers.
I turn 80 today. Birthdays don’t mean much anymore, but I’ve been lucky. I'm the only one of my friends to have lived to this age, the only one of my kind who has acquired eight decades.
I’m a magical girl- or rather, a magical woman.
The nursing home attendant opens my blinds, giggling a ’"good morning". I could tell her about the wars my girlfriends and I fought. I could tell her how I used to be famous for summoning a blizzard of light and rose petals that would send nearly all demons reeling. Judging by her sensational heels, she might have enjoyed our outfits at least.
But I don’t say anything of the sort. No need to be put on an Alzheimer’s pill. My mind- and my magic- are still strong.
Besides, I convinced my daughter that this nursing home was the best fit for me for a reason. It's built on the site where we first battled Abaddon, and the magic from our sealing ritual is wearing thin. I'll protect these people like I did 62 years ago. I may not be beautiful anymore, but the world still needs me.

I love it! There is hope for her, something to fight to live for. She is not finished. :) We always have old men, sensei for example, but not old women.

Granny Weatherwax and Nanny Ogg are both old women and very powerful in their own way, but I agree: old warriors are usually blokes.
The question remains, though, what happens when she does die? Are there enough of her kind left to hold back the tide?
I love the concept and I love the execution. Well done.
