The Less Said

Challenge

Challenge Deadline: 7 Apr 2017

Personally, I think this is a hard one (twss) but that's what challenges are for, right? Have a conversation between two or more people (people being intelligent entities, not necessarily human beings) where the omission of key information gets things moving. Someone is holding something back and the speaks even louder than if they said something. Silence can be golden. Silence can be loud. Here, I want silence to speak. As usual you have two weeks. Good luck.

Change the sentence that starts with 'Someone' to: Someone is holding something back and THAT speaks even louder than if they said something.

I couldn't edit it so hopefully you'll see this over here.

Duly noted. I made it so that Prompts and Challenges can't be edited once submitted, since it can have an impact on the stories entered into the challenge. I may rethink that at some point, especially if the need to make minor tweaks like this becomes a chronic problem, but I didn't want to introduce the possibility that a challenger might drastically alter the terms of the challenge mid-stream -- just, y'know, because maybe they like to see the world burn or something. :)

LOL, good point, Jim. maybe a note on the challenge writing screen that says cannot be edited...

RQ, this is sort of a challenge about the elephant in the room. But it's also about tension in the silence. I'm thinking a direct question doesn't get answered, or furtive glances suggest something but since they don't speak of it.. or or or ooh, they don't speak of someone ostracized from the family... I don't think this is a hard challenge at all.

The next update adds a disclaimer to the challenge and prompt creation screens about the permanency of said items. :)

Really? Is no one else going to step up to this challenge? Don't let me win this thing by default, folks!

Don't forget to choose a winner, Mr. Quick, if you please. I really need to build a mechanism into challenges to automatically send out reminders to challenge creators once the close date arrives.

More than a month late! My apologies to all challengers. I remember on Ficly that choosing a winner was always difficult and this was no different. The stories were very good and offered many possibilities. Looking forward to creating the next challenge to see what else you can do!
