Bad Bot Behavior
I dabble a little in a lot of things — writing, webcomics, gaming, photography, web design, music, and more. I write code full-time and words in the gaps in between.
Ladies and Gentlebots,
You may have noticed recently that we have, once more, had an incursion into our realm of the most botific kind. Our lord and master, ethelthefrog, has been magnanimous enough quietly quash these invasions, but until today we had been forced to leave our gates open and unattended. Very soon, this problem will plague us no more. The gates will be closed and securely locked, and only persons of the most trustworthy, upstanding, and most of all human kind will be allowed access to our grounds and castle proper. In the meantime, should further non-human creatures be spotted lurking about the property and premises, please feel free to send a scroll to either my attention or ethelthefrog's. Additional tools will be forged in the coming days to allow for continued vigilance and maintenance of our hallowed habitat.
Thank you for your attention. You may now return to your writing.

Thanks, Jim. The Captcha is now live. I've also added a feature called "the pit" into which all spambots that do still manage to register will be cast forth. If you are interested in what this looks like, just visit https://ficlatte.com/thepit/ I'm sure you'll agree that this is a sufficiently unpleasant place into which to be banished.Keep writing!

Oh, I do love the pit! That's a lovely bit circular hell right there. Thanks for that addition, good sir!
And for those of you puzzled by the URL ethel posted, there's actually an underscore between 'the' and 'pit' in the URL. Bots who get trapped there will never find their way out again.

Oh, of course. The italics code has eaten the solitary underscore in the url. I never was happy that that was robust. I'll raise a ticket for myself.

And they were cast forth into the pit, to trouble humanity no longer.

How 'bot-ist'. Nah, I'm kidding. Good job. Let them suffer for our amusement!

So bots are sent off to play Advent: "You are in a maze of twisty little passages, all different." I like it.
